When 8,000 professionals from across the global eMobility ecosystem gathered at Tempelhof Airport this past September, they came to shape the future of electric vehicle charging. What many may not have realized is that the event itself was designed to embody the very principles we advocate for: sustainability, innovation, and measurable impact.

This year's icnc25 didn't just talk about bridging the gap to mass EV adoption - we demonstrated how large-scale industry events can lead by example in environmental responsibility. The results speak for themselves, and they belong to all of us who participated.

Our 2025 Sustainability Achievements

At Hubject, we believe that building the infrastructure for mass EV adoption means practicing what we preach. Here's what we accomplished together at icnc25:

Carbon Footprint Reduction

  • Total event emissions: 313.054,78 CO2e [kg]
  • 43% reduction in our carbon footprint per person compared with 2024

Sustainable Catering

  • 100% vegetarian menu featuring local and regional sustainable ingredients
  • Strategic partnerships with Sustainable Meetings Berlin suppliers committed to reducing food-related emissions

Waste Management & Circular Economy

  • Zero-waste approach using reusable utensils throughout the venue
  • Clearly marked recycling bins ensuring proper waste separation
  • Collaboration with Sustainable Meetings Berlin partners and eco-friendly suppliers

Digital-First Operations

  • Paperless programs and communications
  • Online registration reducing resource consumption
  • Digital networking tools minimizing printed materials (event app)

Low-Emission Transportation

  • On-site EV chargers supporting attendees' electric vehicles
  • Discounted train tickets encouraging public transport use
  • Strategic venue selection at a major public transport hub

Each of these measures wasn't chosen arbitrarily - they were carefully selected to create measurable environmental and social impact while supporting the broader goals of sustainable urban development and climate action.

Advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals Through eMobility

As part of icnc25's sustainability strategy, we selected two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and implemented targeted actions throughout the conference to advance them. The theme of this year's event - "Shaping Customer Experiences: Bridging the Gap to Mass EV Adoption" - aligns perfectly with these goals, demonstrating how the eMobility industry's work extends far beyond infrastructure and technology.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

The eMobility technologies and policies showcased at icnc25 directly improve urban liveability. From better air quality to reduced noise pollution, from expanded access to sustainable transport to more equitable mobility options - the innovations presented at our conference represent practical solutions for creating cleaner, more inclusive cities.

Our event demonstrated how charging infrastructure innovations make electric mobility accessible and seamless for diverse communities. When customer experiences improve, adoption accelerates. When adoption accelerates, cities become more sustainable. This virtuous cycle is at the heart of SDG 11, and icnc25 brought together the partnerships and technologies making it possible.

Every sustainability action we implemented at the conference - from vegetarian catering that supported local suppliers to digital operations that reduced resource waste - contributed to this goal of building sustainable communities.

SDG 13: Climate Action

Transport accounts for a significant portion of global emissions, and the transition to electric mobility represents one of our most powerful tools for climate action. By uniting 8,000 professionals behind solutions that reduce transport emissions, icnc25 accelerated the collaborative action needed to meet Europe's 2035 zero-emission targets.

Every partnership forged at Tempelhof, every innovation shared on our stages, and every commitment made by industry leaders contributes to the urgent climate action our planet requires. The 43% reduction in our per-person carbon footprint compared to 2024 demonstrates that meaningful progress is achievable when we prioritize sustainability in our operations.

From the EV chargers that supported low-emission travel to our venue to the vegetarian catering that reduced food-related emissions, each sustainability measure at icnc25 was strategically designed to advance climate action while proving that industry leadership means walking the talk.

A Collective Voice for Climate Action

The sustainability measures at icnc25 weren't implemented in isolation. They were part of a broader commitment to accelerating Europe's electric future. At the heart of this commitment was an industry-wide pledge unveiled during the conference, inviting all 8,000 attendees to publicly support maintaining Europe's phase-out of combustion engines. Just days before critical EU debates on the 2035 zero-emission targets, the eMobility community united behind a clear message: leadership, innovation, and investment certainty require an unwavering commitment to electric mobility. This grassroots pledge, signed by industry pioneers and major players alike, demonstrated that the call for climate action comes directly from those building the infrastructure to make it possible, connecting our event's environmental responsibility with the policy decisions that will shape our industry's future.

Small Steps, Transformative Impact

The connection between our sustainability achievements and these UN Sustainable Development Goals isn't coincidental - it's intentional. Every action we took, from waste management to transportation options, was selected to advance SDG 11 and SDG 13 while creating the best possible experience for attendees.

This integrated approach demonstrates that sustainability and excellence aren't competing priorities - they're complementary goals that strengthen each other. The same innovations that make EV charging seamless for customers also make our cities cleaner and our climate more stable. The same collaborative spirit that drives breakthrough partnerships at icnc25 also powers the collective action needed for meaningful environmental progress.

Together, we proved that industry leadership means building not just better charging infrastructure, but a better future for cities and communities worldwide. The 20% increase in attendance from 2024 to 2025 shows that this commitment resonates across our industry. As our community grows, so does our collective impact.

Looking Forward to icnc26

Thank you for helping make sustainability an integral part of the icnc25 success story. Your participation, your engagement with sustainable practices, and your commitment to building a cleaner future made every achievement possible.

Small steps today lead to transformative change tomorrow. As we look ahead to icnc26, we're already planning how to build on this year's success, reduce our environmental impact further, and continue demonstrating that the eMobility industry leads by example.

See you at icnc26, where we'll continue building the connected, sustainable future of mobility together.
